Great light weight plane for 3D and smooth flying

Posted by TorqueRoller on Nov 21st 2019

After a friend of mine let me fly his Twisted Hobbys 43" EPP Edge 540 XL, I absolutely had to have one. Such a great design! It handles all attitudes with great stability and gave me the confidence to do everything my skill level allows. Knife edge loops were easier than ever before, beautiful flat spins, nice level parachutes, stable harriers, And..knife edge spins! I've never had a profile type plane that would do nice knife edge spins. The design of this plane is very well thought out! Also the quality of the kit, both with the included hardware and fit and finish of all the airframe parts is just perfect. So easy to get this plane together straight and true, I really have nothing negative to say about it!

    Can't stop flying it!

I would take my time in the build to ensure your airframe is true and strong with the many carbon spars. The build is straight forward and the manual is very detailed. The foam is nice and thick and pre-cut for the spars. I went for a light build and used 12g metal gear servos and a 68g 2235 1200kv Leopard motor, 30 amp ESC with a 1500 mah 3 cell battery. I used a 11x4.7 slow fly prop and then an 11x5.5 regular APC Electric prop. Not a lot of difference for me in the performance. I set my throttle curve down to linear 65% max as I was pulling 32 amps and 332 watts @ about 12.3v. Setting it for 250 watts pulling 23 amps and the flying weight coming in at 24.3 oz it has plenty of kick for my 3d work. I love the knife edge and it's solid tracking for square loops. I think this will be placed in the "favorites" section in my hanger. Roger, Southern RC Flyers, Dothan AL
